Egypt Win Record Sixth African Cup of Nations

Only one goal from midfielder Mohamed Aboutrika was enough to settle the 2008 African Cup of Nations final in Egypt's favour and earn the Pharaohs a record sixth title in Africa's premier international tournament.

Beaten finalists Cameroon may have had the big name stars such as Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o, Geremi of Newcastle United and Arsenal's Alexandre Song but they couldn't get into a stride against the defending champions from North Africa whose pace and skill on the break looked dangerous throughout the game.
Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan secured himself a personal record as he took his own tally of African Cup of Nations victories to three with a fine captain's display in a hard fought final. The 2008 African Cup of Nations has provided plenty of action, goals and controversy over the past few weeks and despite the complaints of the big European clubs about losing their African players at this time of the season, it has cemented it's place as one of world soccer's most entertaining competitions.
