Youth Soccer Gear - Forget Hand Me Downs

By Wayne MacLean

Prevent injuries with proper youth soccer gear.

Youth soccer players do need the same type of equipment as more mature soccer players. But, it is important that their gear fits properly. Children will get more enjoyment from the game, and will be less likely to injure themselves.

Youth soccer gear includes a solid pair of soccer cleats, well-fitting soccer shorts, and socks that match the team jersey. Soccer shinguards will provide lower leg protection, and a soccer jersey, to top it off. Let's look a little deeper at each item of youth soccer gear.

Soccer Cleats and Shoes

Cleat or shoe types include removable cleats, molded cleats, indoor soccer shoes and turf shoes:

  • Molded Cleats have non-removable, pre-formed rubber or plastic cleats on the bottom. Metal cleats are not allowed. They can be used on all outdoor field types but will not perform as well on turf, or wet, soggy fields.
  • Removable Cleats are made of a hard plastic. These studs can be replaced as they wear down. Players of a higher skill level usually use this type of cleat on longer grass, or wet soggy fields.
  • Indoor soccer shoes look similar to a sneaker, but they are very different. They are made with exclusive compounds in the sole that provide improved grip over sneakers. They are cut lower to prevent rolling off the ankles as your child makes the moves that soccer requires. They are made for firm surfaces like gyms, but not for indoor artificial turf.
  • Turf Shoes are specifically for playing on artificial turf. It doesn't matter if it is indoor or outdoor turf. The sole has been specially designed with studs that are shorter than molded or removable cleats. They are multi-directional in nature. This helps provide the grip necessary for playing on artificial turf.

Shinguards

Soccer shin guards are made from a variety of materials. These materials can include:

  • Plastic.
  • Polyurethane.
  • Foam rubber.
  • Fiberglass.
  • Foam/lycra.

Shin guards are required as part of youth soccer gear and one of the best ways to prevent injury. In soccer most of the action is at your feet. It is sometimes suggested that different positions need to wear a different type of shin guard. I will provide the information, but only you and your child can decide what is best.

  • Defenders - thicker model with more protection.
  • Midfielders - protective, lightweight, and more rounded in style.
  • Forwards - more ankle protection and very light.

This guide will be helpful in choosing the proper shin guard size for your child:

  • X-Small: up to a height of 3 feet 9 inches
  • Small: up to a height of 4 feet 5 inches
  • Medium: up to a height of 5 feet 1 inch
  • Large: over 5 feet 2 inches

Youth Soccer Socks

These socks are not much different from the socks that older players wear. They are just smaller. They are needed to hold the shin guards in place, and to match the team's uniform.

Less expensive socks are usually made from a polyester-acrylic blend. Sometimes cotton is added for comfort, but don't expect a lot of cotton. But you can find 100% cotton socks.

Choosing top quality socks made with synthetic microfibers will pull perspiration away from the foot. They will have a padded sole to enhance foot comfort as well.

TIP - If your child's foot sweats a great deal, put talcum powder or foot powder in the sock to help soak it up. This will help prevent blisters.

Youth Soccer Jerseys

Most jerseys today are made from a combination of light-weight microfibers that are and do not absorb much moisture. When it comes to youth soccer, the team or association usually supplies the jerseys. So for that reason, I will leave the jersey choosing to you and your soccer association. Unless you are looking for replica soccer jerseys.

Soccer Shorts

Even though they may be cool to your kids, baggy shorts are not good for the soccer field. If they are too long, they can restrict easy movement. If this happens your child may get injured, or may not play up to their ability. The less restriction, the better it is for their game. They also have to fit your team's uniform. Some associations will provide shorts and socks as part of the team uniform.

If you use this information as a guide you should be able to get the right youth soccer gear for your child.

Lansdowne Road - Historic Stadium

By Ronan Menton

Lansdowne Road Stadium is named after the road along which it runs on the south side of Dublin in the fashionable Ballsbridge area. The stadium is in an ideal position for match goers because of its close proximity to Dublin City Center, but also because the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport) runs through the stadium.

Lansdowne road has a number of claims to fame, it is the oldest rugby test venue and it is the only stadium in the world that a train line runs through the main stand. There have been many famous occasions in Lansdowne road since the days of Jack Charlton and the green army which saw Ireland qualify for three world cups since 1990, and every body in Ireland has their own memories of triumph in this famous arena.

With a capacity of just over 49,000 people for International rugby matches, the famous Lansdowne Road Roar is an intimidating sight. For International soccer matches the stadium has to be converted to all seated which brings the figures down to 35,000 people. The project is due to be finished by 2009 at a coast of e395m with the Irish government putting e150m towards the project.

The days for Lansdowne Road are numbered as new plans for a modern stadium to be built on the current Lansdowne Road site. Many see Lansdowne Road as a dilapidated stadium which has lived far past its sell by date. The new Lansdowne Road will be a 50,000 all seated stadium which will be co-owned by both the IRFU and the FAI. In the meantime Croke Park, a very impressive 82,000 seated stadium will become home to international rugby and football fixtures in Ireland.

Football Maestro System Review - Legit Soccer System Or Scam?

By Brian Otis

The Football Maestro System that I have been using for the past few days is based on gauging the qualities of the team, and looking at the important factors that give one of the teams a huge advantage. This makes football betting less like gambling and more like a systematic way of betting. Even though there are no soccer systems that are perfect, I have found out that there are crucial factors that make predicting football matches much easier.

I have been using this system for about 2 months now, and it is mostly about backing home teams. These picks are emailed on every day where there are soccer games, which include games in the English, Spanish, Italian and also the European Cup competitions.

Online Soccer Betting

This soccer system will require you to place back bets on soccer teams selected. This means that you will need access to either a betting exchange or a bookmaker. If you are using an online bookmaker, you should make sure that you use one which pays you on time. There are certainly some online bookmakers that can take months before paying you.

Betting On Soccer The Right Way

Before you expect to become profitable with soccer betting, you must be ready to control your greed when you are on long winning runs, which can certainly happen with the Football Maestro System. It is usually recommended that you have a betting plan to spread out your stakes before you actually start to bet. This prevents you from making bad emotional mistakes, like betting really big to try to recoup your losses.

Betting Like A Professional

Football betting should never be done randomly. If you want become profitable with soccer betting, you should research on each of the potential games before betting, like looking at important team news and injury statistics. Done correctly, it can give you a much higher chance of winning any soccer bet.

Soccer Posters, Collecting Soccer World Cup Team Posters

By Carmel Baird

For every soccer enthusiast, the event of the year is the World Cup. The soccer fans throughout the world are the most dedicated and watch the games mesmerized, and they don't hide the fact.

The Souvenirs of the World Cup

Whenever an event like the World Cup soccer takes place, millions of souvenirs are made for fans to have a reminder of the event. Every conceivable type of keepsake including soccer posters for all the different teams are sold to the fans. Every year the most sought-after souvenirs are the soccer posters of different sizes, which the fans find to be the perfect remembrance of the event.

What is a Soccer Poster?

A soccer poster for each event represents part of the history of that country's team, the faces of the team members for that year will always be remembered by that poster. Each soccer fan wants a little part of that big event to be with him or her forever, and that is the reason why soccer posters are the most in demand item at an event as big as World Cup soccer.

The value of these posters that hold memories of history forever, were even bigger once upon a time, when television broadcasting hardly existed. Every image of the soccer event was treasured and none more than those on the soccer poster.

Of course the power of mind and what you have seen in person is probably the best memory of all, when an event is as big as the World Cup Soccer this is so true for the soccer fans. In years to come, with your children and their children, having these soccer poster souvenirs of such a great event as a Soccer World Cup, you will be a very special person to them for having been there or having collected such wonderful keepsakes.

Our passions define who we are, our minds register what we see. The pictures prove we have seen it and posters make the history come back to life. Collecting soccer posters will make our history book more colorful and vivid, our children and grandchildren whom, no doubt will be soccer fans too, will have many stories to tell about the fascinating, adventurous person you are.

Therefore, while many other souvenirs may or may not survive, the soccer poster will surely pass the time test and remain in the family history book for many generations to come. Images will always be a main form of remembrance. When you have a picture or poster that holds expressions beyond words such as a soccer poster of a winning World Cup soccer team, you certainly have something of great value.

Soccer Shirts

By Kevin Stith

In comparison to other sports, soccer enjoys a respectable reputation and endless fan following. The English, European and Spanish soccer leagues along with other teams have allowed the world to be a part of the soccer revelry. This intense ninety-minute sport is an adrenaline rush and can make or break a country's sporting status.

Numerous amateurs, regulars and professionals practice soccer as a relaxation activity, hobby and as professional players. When soccer gained a reputation as a competitive and professional sport, comparable to other games, soccer shirts were introduced. The main reason being they served as a uniform. Soccer shirts allow team members to recognize each other and viewers can display their loyalty by wearing favorite team soccer shirts.

Apart from providing a professional and sporty look, which helps distinguish between teams, soccer shirts are made keeping in mind the wearers needs. The correct size, fit and material usage assists professionals and plays a major role in their performance. When selecting soccer shirts customers need to check comfort levels. This is because tight soccer shirts obstruct free movement and players' concentration. Soccer shirts that are worn by league or team players are essentially uniforms are mostly loose fitting. This is because players are dependent upon free movement of the arms, shoulders and hips. For aficionados and cheerleaders soccer shirt preferences vary. They may opt for tight fits and shirts that are stylish.

Soccer shirts are mostly short sleeved and some goalkeepers may choose to wear long sleeved designs. They may or may not have buttons on the face and are made of user-friendly materials that can give relief when players sweat during play. Soccer Jerseys - More Than Just A Fashion Statement

By Nick Kershaw

In modern sports, soccer jerseys are no longer just apparel won by a player during the game to identify him and the team he plays for. These shirts are now a commodity that is valued by both players and fans alike. The first signs that a soccer jersey provided more than just protection against the elements were when players who exchanged shirts after a game would try to do a swap with the higher profile players in the opposing team. If you had the fortune to play against David Beckham in a match, it would not surprise many people if you made a beeline straight for the famous English player after the game in a bid to get your hands on his jersey.

Some players prefer to keep the treasured jerseys forever in their possession and perhaps pass it down to their future generations. However, there are fans and players alike who would also attempt to cash in on these items. As with other hobbies like movies and film, sports memorabilia value items more when they include an autograph from a player of stature. Autographed Ronaldo soccer jerseys are sought more widely than the same jerseys without the player's signature, and incredibly, the same goes for soccer boots which have been worn but still sport treasured autographs. Autographed soccer apparel are often kept in great condition, framed or locked up, as a result of fans' admiration and idolatry of their favorite personalities.

Of course, there are also fans who buy soccer jerseys simply because they wish to identify with the club or team they support. These shirts can also be used as fashion statements, and it is not a rare sight to walk around in any city in the world now and see someone wearing an AC Milan or even a Blackburn Rovers jersey, with the global reach that the sport enjoys increasingly. These shirts are very generic in compatibility with other casual apparel, and the comfort factor they provide makes soccer jerseys a common and popular sight on every street.

Nick Kershaw has been providing cutting edge soccer news for many years since falling in love with the sport. Not content with providing live soccer commentary on his private network, Nick is also a retailer of soccer jerseys.

Dalymount Park: Home of Irish Soccer

By Ronan Menton

Dalymount Park, situated in Phisboro just west of Dublin City Center, is home to Bohemians FC today with a capacity of just over 12,000 people. The stadium was built in 1901 and the first game ever held there took place in September 1901 between Bohemians and Shelbourne. Known affectionately by the Irish soccer fans as simply Dalyer, the days are now numbered for this historic stadium.

Today the stadium is still being used on a regular basis as the home of Bohemians. Historically Dalymount Park was the home of Irish Soccer with major home international matches being played there until the 1984 when Ireland played Italy. An amazing 40,000 people turned up to see the game. Only 20,000 people were allowed in that night to see the game. The last time Dalymount was used for a senior international match of any description was in 1990 when Ireland played Morocco.

Unfortunately from the 1940s until recent times, no development had taken place at the stadium and the stadium with its old wooden stands fell into dilapidation. In more recent times, the main stand has been replaced with a modern stand, but the rest of the stadium is a throw back to history.

In recent times it has become inevitable that Bohemians were going to leave Dalymount as the price or land in Dublin shot up. A recent development has been the sale of the old stadium for e50m which will also include the building of a 10,000 all seated stadium in the Castleknock area of Dublin. 105 years of sporting history comes to an end.

For Kids Sports Soccer Rules

By Lance Winslow

Over the past few years in traveling the country; The United States of America, I have surveyed kids and asked them if they play sports indeed many said that they played Soccer or Baseball and a few played pop-warner football, softball, basketball and hockey. But predominantly the standard answer was either baseball or soccer and mostly soccer. You see soccer for a kids sport seems to be one which is most favored.

As a kid I do remember that the AYSO American Youth Soccer Organization had a Motto; Everyone Plays Soccer. And the play and soccer formed the letters AYSO for the bumper stickers with this motto; pl-AY SO-ccer. Soccer indeed is a sport that all children who can run can play and it is also very popular with parents as well. They feel safer with their kids playing soccer rather than lets say boxing, hockey or football. That makes sense too of course.

Soccer seems to popular in every state almost without exception, even in colder climates children play in the summer time or have indoor soccer matches in the larger cities or well financed suburban cities. Soccer also is a sport, which helps keep kids fit and trim while teaching them hard work ethic, sportsmanship and team work. For all these reasons soccer appears to be the sport of choice for the next up and coming generation.

The Maradona 7-A Classic Soccer Trick

By Heikal Suhaili

Diego Armando Maradona invented this very soccer trick in the early 1980s in one of the Argentine Clausura soccer matches at half time.

He combines a set of juggling soccer skills starting from left foot to right foot, then left knee to right knee, then left shoulder to right shoulder and finally heading the ball to complete the whole sequence.

Each part benefits for both freestyle soccer and in any kind of soccer matches like futsal:

Foot

The single most important part that improve your touches which allows you to apply other soccer skills and tricks like dribbling, foot plant, volley and so on.

Knee

Normally used to control in a long ball situation and juggle while moving with the ball.

Shoulder

Less beneficial in a soccer match but very useful in freestyle soccer. Plant, juggle or transfer from shoulder to shoulder or shoulder to head.

Head

Useful for both in freestyle soccer and in a soccer match. A difficult skill to master that requires maximum concentration on the center of the ball and great balance to avoid the ball from falling.

These skills may sound simple but improves your overall ball control, coordination and balance which makes you less vulnerable to lose the ball or possession during an important soccer match.

As for those who are interested in freestyle soccer. Maradona 7 is a good starting point for newbies in the game before trying out the harder tricks like Around the World.

A soccer skill that's worth mastering for both newbies and professionals which in my opinion, the most fundamental skill in the world of soccer.
